FMCG, Food & Beverage adhesives
High-speed secondary packaging for personal care, home care, confectionery and beverage.
What this line needs from a hot melt
FMCG lines are unforgiving in a very specific way: they run fast, they stop and start, and the finished carton then sits in a warehouse that may reach 45°C in an Indian summer. An adhesive that passes a bench test can still fail on both counts.
We supply carton closing, confectionery cartoning, beverage multipack and tetra pack straw and cap fixing grades — including water-white grades where the pack is white or lightly printed and any show-through would be visible.
Tell us this much
The more of this you can give us, the more useful our first reply will be.
- Cartons per minute and the compression time available
- Board: virgin, recycled, coated, varnished or metallised
- Warehouse temperature in the hottest month
- Whether a food-contact declaration is required
- Current consumption in grams per carton, if you know it
If this is happening on your line
The faults we are called out to most often in fmcg, food & beverage, what actually causes them, and the grade we would put on the line.
No fibre tear — the bond peels clean off the board
Why it happens. Not enough hot grab for the compression time your line allows, often on recycled board.
What we would do. UPT-3815 or UPT-3128, both with aggressive hot grab; UPT-3128 also tolerates variable line speed.
Flaps pop open in the warehouse, not on the line
Why it happens. The softening point is below your actual storage temperature.
What we would do. Check the warehouse temperature in May, not in January, and pick the softening point above it.
Char and blocked nozzles on a stop-start line
Why it happens. Adhesive held at application temperature far longer than it is being used.
What we would do. A metallocene grade such as UPT-7448 has excellent thermal stability; or drop the temperature with UPT-3773, which applies at 140–160°C.
Glue shows through a white or lightly printed carton
Why it happens. A yellow-toned grade under thin or bright board.
What we would do. Water-white grades: UPT-3972 for fast-setting confectionery lines, UPT-3128 for general carton closing.
