Glue Sticks adhesives
Extruded stick formats for product assembly, OEM lines and general purpose bonding.
What this line needs from a hot melt
A glue stick is judged on two things the datasheet rarely mentions: whether it feeds smoothly through the gun without jamming, and whether the bond survives the temperature the finished product will actually sit in.
We extrude sticks across EVA and polyolefin chemistries, from general purpose assembly grades to high softening point automotive grades used in wheel arches and boot trim.
Tell us this much
The more of this you can give us, the more useful our first reply will be.
- Stick diameter and length
- Gun make and wattage, manual or automatic
- Substrates on both sides
- Service temperature of the finished product
- Open time you need to position the part
If this is happening on your line
The faults we are called out to most often in glue sticks, what actually causes them, and the grade we would put on the line.
The stick jams or feeds unevenly in the gun
Why it happens. Diameter tolerance, or a viscosity the gun’s melt rate cannot keep up with.
What we would do. Tell us the gun make, wattage and stick diameter and we will match the grade to it.
Bond fails on plastic components
Why it happens. A general purpose grade that does not wet the plastic surface.
What we would do. UPT-8229 — good adhesion to plastic surfaces, with a long open time for positioning.
The bond softens in a hot car or a warm warehouse
Why it happens. The softening point is below the service temperature.
What we would do. UPT-8432 (150°C) or UPT-8452 (145°C) polyolefin sticks; UPT-8291 (100°C) for helmets.
Stringing between the nozzle and the part
Why it happens. Grade too high in viscosity for the gun temperature.
What we would do. UPT-8110 or UPT-8747 flow cleanly at 160°C with good hot grab.
